Power Ballad Week - Poison

It just came to me that so far at least one member of each band on "Power Ballad" week has been on a VH1 reality show in the last few years. That's either really sad or really cool....(I'm leaning towards really cool) Anyways, this particular ballad deals with social issues such as poverty, veterans affairs, and corrupt televangelists. Wow pretty deep stuff for guys with hair like that. I wish I still had my Vision Street Wear t-shirt.

Power Ballad Week - Damn Yankees

I suppose this was somewhat of a rock "supergroup." The Yankees consisted of members from Night Ranger, Styx, and of course "The Motor City Madman"...Ted Nugent (remember those sweet Oakley's he sported in the video?)

Power Ballad Week - Motley Crue

Ah 80's hair metal bands... First the group would come out with the catchy rocker tune and then came the power ballad. How did that Monster Ballads commercial go?...."Because every bad boy has a soft side," or something like that. Here's a song that brought the 80's metal power ballad into the mainstream.

Love Week - Barry White

I figured the best way to end Valentines' Week would be with a few songs from the "Walrus of Love." He's got a pretty interesting back story that you can check out on the link below. I hope everyone enjoyed "Love Week."

Love Week - Milli Vanilli

I figured we'd end Love Week with the soulful sounds of Rob & Fab (or whoever sang their songs) Sure they lip synced on their albums but we can thank the boys for making bicycle shorts, sport coats and suspenders a hip look. Plus they had some of the freshest dance moves around (see video) Have a nice weekend.

I wish I had moves like that.

Love Week - Vanilla Ice

In honor of Valentines Day, this weeks posts will feature songs about love. I'll try to appeal to you whether you're in love, heartbroken, or a heart breaker. Let's start off the week with one of our generations most romantic poets....Vanilla Ice. The "phone call" at the end of the song gets me every time.

Soul Music Sunday - The Spinners

When I was a freshmen at the College of Charleston I remember walking down the street near the main part of campus and I heard the song "I'll Be Around". It sounded like someone was playing a radio but when I came around the corner I saw that it was actually The Spinners! They sounded great and I got to enjoy an unexpected free concert.
Billy Henderson (One of the main singers from The Spinners) passed away 2/2/07. In honor of him, here's a few of their greatest hits.

It's Alive! - Whiskeytown

It's probably obvious by now that I'm a fan of all things Ryan Adams. Here's a few tracks from his first band...Whiskeytown. I'm not sure about the dates or locations of these performances...I just know they happened between 1996 & 1998.

Happy Birthday Bob Marley! 2/6/45

I discovered the music of Bob Marley back in high school (I bought the Legend Album like millions of others) and I've been moved and amazed by his songs ever since. It's hard to pick my favorite Bob songs ..... these tracks jumped out at me while I was looking through my collection. I feel each one represents a different time in his career. Enjoy!!

I learned something new today. Apparently my file sharing service only allows a certain amount of downloads per month (I opted for the free package) The good news is more of you are enjoying the music, the bad news is we've used up my download quota till 2/22/07. I ended up opening another account so I'm going to transfer the songs from 1/22/07 on (to do them all would be a pain in the ass) I'll leave the previous posts up for awhile but they won't be listenable till 2/22/07. I'll convert the songs sometime this evening. Does any of this make sense? Thanks for stopping by.

Later......The songs from Dio to Neil should be good to go again. See you back on Totally 80's Friday.
