Wild Card Wednesday - The Jimi Hendrix Experience

1983...(A Merman I Should Turn To Be)

Today's post is in honor of Jimi Hendrix's birthday...(although I'm two days late-he would have been 64). If you're a Hendrix fan (or a music fan in general) and you find yourself in Seattle, I highly recommend checking out the Experience Music Project Museum. They have tons of Hendrix memorabilia and stuff from other Washington area bands. You can find this song on the classic Electric Ladyland Album. (Just a heads up, this song is almost 14 minutes long-but well worth a listen)

Two For Tuesday - Cat Stevens

Well before he changed his name to Yusef Islam and became banned from entering the US of A , this man put out some damn good songs. (Here's two of my personal favorites) You can find the first track on Mona Bone Jakon and the second track on Tea For The Tillerman.

Metal Monday! - Nine Inch Nails

March Of The Pigs

I suppose "Industrial Metal Monday" would be a more appropriate title for today's post. It's hard to believe that The Downward Spiral came out 12 years ago. I just about wore this tape out (that's right I said tape) back in high school. Happy Monday.

Soul Music Sunday - Curtis Mayfield

Pusherman

Here's a track from the classic Superfly Album. Listening to this man's music makes a little ole white boy like me feel like I've got soul- maybe it will do the same for you. (Don't forget to check out the movie. If you're unfamiliar with it, I've attached a link to the original movie trailer)Also don't forget to stick it to the man!!

It's Alive! - James Taylor

With A Little Help From My Friends

Fillmore East - New York

1/25/71

Apparently Paul McCartney was in the audience for this show so James Taylor decided to open with a Beatles classic. The standard version of this song can be found on the Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band Album.

Totally 80's Friday - REO Speedwagon

Take It On The Run

I hope everyone had a nice Thanksgiving.....now it's time for some 80's. (Wow Wu-Tang to REO, what a transition) Last year I saw this band in concert and they were unbelievable. I'll be honest with you, I didn't expect much from these guys but I left the show a big fan. If they ever come through your town... check it out! It's a very fun concert (and pretty cheap) Here's one of the crowd favorites from Hi Infidelity.

Wild Card Wednesday - Wu-Tang Clan

Bring Da Ruckus

Here's the opening track from one of my favorite rap Cd's from the 90's (others include Midnight Marauders, Niggaz4life, Ready To Die, and The Chronic..look for songs from these albums sometime in the future) Anyways you can find this song on Enter the Wu-Tang (36 Chambers) . So pour out a sip of your 40oz for ODB and turn it up.

Two For Tuesday - Ben Harper

Walk Away (Live)

Love Gonna Walk Out On Me (w/Toots Hibbert)

Alright time for a little Ben Harper. The first song is off the great double album Live From Mars. The second song can be found on the Toots And The Maytals Album True Love. This album also features collaborations with Willie Nelson, Ryan Adams, and Keith Richards..to name a few. Check it out. Note: Since ezarchive's "upgrade", the mp3 sound has been downgraded to web quality. Fortunately I found a new mp3 host so starting with this post all the songs will sound like they did in the early stages of this site.

Metal Monday! - Rage Against The Machine

Bullet In The Head

This song is off the group's self titled debut Rage Against The Machine. It remains my favorite album by these guys and I don't think they ever topped it.

Band Of The Week - Wilco

At Least That's What You Said (Live)

This post concludes Wilco week. Here's a pretty great song to see in concert so I decided to post a live version of the track. The standard version of this song is off A Ghost Is Born. I'll be back to the regular posts tomorrow.

Band Of The Week - Wilco

Via Chicago

Here's a song from 1999's Summerteeth Album. This Cd features some of the bands darkest lyrics which are mostly masked by upbeat and pop-like music.(although this track is neither upbeat nor pop-like) It's a great album and here's one of my favorite tracks.

Band Of The Week - Wilco

California Stars

This song can be found on on the Mermaid Avenue Album. This CD features songs that were written but never released by Woody Guthrie.(Apparently these song archives were first offered to Bob Dylan back in the 60's but he never had a chance to go through em) Wilco collaborated with Billy Bragg (also featuring Natalie Merchant and Corey Harris) for this and Mermaid Avenue Vol II. There is an interesting documentary about Woody Guthrie and the making of these albums called Man In The Sand.

Band Of The Week - Wilco

Misunderstood

Kingpin

Today's post features songs from the 1996 Album Being There. This is a double album so I decided to pick a track from each disc. This was the first Wilco Cd I ever purchased, and it still remains my favorite.

Band Of The Week - Wilco

Should've Been In Love

Ahh yes another new feature on Cobra Kai. Instead of "Artist of the Month" I'm going to have "Artist/Band of the Week." This month's Band of the Week is Wilco. (if you already have all of Wilco's Cd's or if you don't like em, I'll be back to the regular posts on Monday) I figured we'd start off with a track from their first CD... A.M.

Soul Music Sunday - James Brown

I'll Go Crazy (Live)

I'm back!!!! ...and with a new theme for Sunday posts! I figured the best way to kick off Soul Music Sunday is to feature a song from "The Godfather of Soul." This track is off the Live At The Apollo (1962) Album. I'm still trying to figure out the kinks of the new Ezarchive site so let me know if you have any problems with the songs.
