..a perfect ending to Smoooooth 70's week

Smooth 70's Week - Seals & Crofts

This will conclude "Smooth 70's Week." (although I'm sure more groovy hits will pop up every once in awhile) For some reason this particular song pushed me to go ahead with my insomniac purchase. This track reminds me of the ocean and the smell of old beach houses (which is usually a pleasant one)I suppose that's why I love it. Have a great weekend..............................

Smooth 70's Week - Elvin Bishop / Mac Davis

I figured I'd give you a two-fer today. One track is about falling in love and one is about pushing it away (pretty easy to figure out which one is which)These are some pretty creepy looking dudes.

Smooth 70's Week - Dave Loggins

Here's another track that was covered by a few country artists (most notably David Allan Coe)..and yes 80's soundtrack fans, Kenny Loggins is his cousin. Apparently he also wrote the theme to the Masters Golf Tournament titled, "Augusta."

Smooth 70's Week - B.W. Stevenson

I wasn't born till 1978, but I love the "smooth 70's" songs from that decade. When I was in college I was somewhat of an insomniac so I would be up till about 3 or 4 in the morning, At that particular time slot their isn't much on TV (I didn't have skinamax) so sometimes I'd get hooked on the music infomercials. One particular show was showcasing a "Smooth 70's" compilation and after about an hour of watching I whipped out the ole' credit card.(It had to mine!) This week we'll visit a few songs from that double CD as well as a few other of my favorites. This first track was covered by country stars Brooks & Dunn, but I prefer the original. Here ya go.

Soul Music Sunday - Al Green

I figured some music from a pastor would be appropriate for a Sunday post. Apparently Al became interested in Christianity after his girlfriend killed herself when he rejected her marriage proposal (after she poured boiling grits on him while he was in the shower) Yikes!

Totally 80's Friday - The Cure

I figured we'd "goth it up" a little for this Friday's post. I recently saw Robert Smith singing on Korn's Unplugged special and his voice is still strong..(and yes he still has that "Edward Scissorhands" look) Have a nice weekend.

It's Alive! - Ben Harper - Part I

Newbury Comics - Cambridge, MA

This a fantastic solo acoustic show with excellent sound quality. If you're a Ben Harper fan (particularly Disc 2 of the Live From Mars CD) you'll love this show. I'll post Part II sometime tomorrow. Happy St. Patrick's Day.

90's Rap Week - Beastie Boys

I saw the Beastie Boys at the first Lollapaloza I went to back in 1994.... and I thought I was going to die. I was standing near the front of the stage before the show started and I was surrounded by thousands of people. All of a sudden the Beasties jumped on stage and the crowd went nuts. Before I knew it I was being swayed back & forth with the crowd while my feet were not touching the ground. It was like an ocean of people and I was in the middle of a storm. I finally weened my way towards the back of the crowd and enjoyed a hell of show (Other acts that year included: A Tribe Called Quest, Green Day, Smashing Pumpkins & George Clinton) I prefer License to Ill & Paul's Boutique over these albums, but these are still pretty strong.

90's Rap Week - Dr. Dre & Snoop Doggy Dogg

It's pretty much impossible to talk about 90's rap and not mention these guys. Both of their debut albums are rap classics. Beatch!!

90's Rap Week - Ice Cube

Gangsta rap came into popular culture in the early 90's and it all pretty much spawned from N.W.A and the solo albums that came after the breakup of the group......Eazy E, Dr. Dre, and this man. Before staring in movies like Are We There Yet? (although Friday & Boyz 'N The Hood are great) Cube released this classic album in 1992.

90's Rap Week - Black Sheep

I don't really keep up with rap music anymore, but I was a pretty big fan in the late 80's and through the 90's (I still remember how excited I was buying my copy of Public Enemy's: Fear of a Black Planet in the 6th grade) This week I'll post a few of my favorite tracks from the 90's.
I still bring my copy of this Black Sheep Cd when I'm going on a long road trip. These guys were part of "The Native Tongues Posse" with The Jungle Brothers, A Tribe Called Quest, & De La Sol. Apparently they are currently trying to make a comeback. Till then check out these two tracks from A Wolf In Sheep's Clothing.

Disco Thursday - Saturday Night Fever

I'm skipping town for the weekend so I figured I'd leave you with a little disco. I'm not much of a fan of this type of music but I am a fan of the movie Saturday Night Fever. This may be the only "Disco Thursday" so enjoy it while it lasts. Have a nice weekend.

Soul Music Sunday - The Delfonics

I suppose I can thank Quentin Tarantino for helping me discover these guys. A few of the Delphonics songs are featured in Jackie Brown (great flick) In the movie Robert De Niro's character is so struck with the music that he buys The Delfonics Greatest Hits. Shorty after I saw the movie, I did the same.

Power Ballad Week - Winger

I don't know about you, but every time I hear Winger I think of Stuart from Beavis & Butthead. Remember he was the nerdy kid with the Winger t-shirt? I don't think any of these guys have been on a VH1 reality show yet but I believe Kip was featured on a Where Are They Now ? episode. I think he's into karate now or something..why do I know this? I'm not sure.
