Featuring Emmylou Harris - Gram Parsons

It's pretty much impossible to have an Emmylou Harris week and not post a few Gram Parsons's tracks. She appeared on his two solo albums (which are now included on one CD) If you're into the sounds of any era of "alternative-country"(from Neil Young to Whiskeytown), you'll dig these albums.

Featuring Emmylou Harris - Willie Nelson

Emmylou & Willie have collaborated many times over the last few decades, but I decided to post a track from a 1998 release. This particular CD was produced by Daniel Lanois (Bob Dylan, U2) so it has a "different feel" than Willie's other albums. It's hard to explain but if you've heard the album you know what I'm talking about. Enough talk, check it out...............

Featuring Emmylou Harris - Ryan Adams

Emmylou is still going strong and working with new artists. Check out the video below to see these two collaborate on a Gram Parsons classic (we'll hear more from Gram later on in the week) This particular track is featured on Ryan's first solo album.

Featuring Emmylou Harris - Bob Dylan

It seems that if an artist wants to improve their album, they call on Emmylou Harris to provide back up vocals. While having some great solo albums of her own, Emmylou appears on so many classic albums. This week I'll feature a few of my favorite Emmylou collaborations.
Let's kick it of with a Cobra Kai regular....Bob Dylan

Soul Music Sunday - The Isley Brothers

No this isn't my family portrait.... it's the legendary Isley Brothers. Ronald had a resurgence in the late 90's by singing on a few R. Kelly tracks. He also played the "Mr. Biggs" character in a few of R.'s videos. A couple of rappers have sampled the Isley brothers songs....... The second track should sound familiar if you're a Notorious B.I.G fan.

Totally 80's Friday - Flock Of Seagulls

Happy Friday everybody. Most of you are probably familiar with this band's hit "I Ran", so I figured we'd listen to another one their "hit" songs. Wouldn't it be great if the singer's hairstyle became fashionable again? Who's with me?............

Wild Card Wednesday - Creedence Clearwater Revival

This past weekend I caught a little of John Fogerty on Austin City Limits. Not sure if it was old or new but he sounded great. I bought CCR's greatest hits back in high school and it's one of those Cd's that I keep going back too (while my Color Me Bad CD is still collecting dust ha-ha!) I'll see you on Totally 80's Friday...................

Metal Monday! - Tenacious D

These guys are a great fit for Metal Monday because they are in fact "fueled by Satan."I finally got around to seeing The Pick of Destiny and it was good for a few laughs (Hey any movie with a Ronnie James Dio cameo can't be bad) I must say I was more of a fan of the Tenacious D HBO show, which you can find on the Tenacious D- The Complete Master Works DVD. Both tracks are off their hilarious Self Titled Album.

A Jason Voorhees Tribute

I posted this back in October but I think it's worth another look. Happy Friday the 13th!

Covered By Cash

This track is probably the most popular cover song Cash recorded. I feel a lot of the success can be attributed to the haunting video (see below). Have a nice weekend.....I'll probably post one more "Covered By Cash" song this weekend.

Covered By Cash

Today's "Covered By Cash" post features a track from his 2006 posthumous release. If you haven't bought this album yet it is a must have. Although I'll warn you most of the songs are about death (Maybe you should save this one for the winter months)

Covered By Cash

Let's jump up about 40 years for today's Covered By Cash post. Cash did some great covers on his "American Albums". One of my favorites is his cover of this Hank Williams classic.

Covered By Cash

Johnny Cash is one of those artists that transcends genres. It's hard to find anyone who dislikes the music of this man. This week I figured we'd listen to a few songs that Cash covered..some old and some new.

Cash covered a lot of Bob Dylan songs but his favorite Dylan Album was The Freewheelin' Bob Dylan. Here's both of their versions of this classic cut off that Album.

Wild Card Wednesday - Lead Belly

Let's take it back about 60-65 years for today's post. It's amazing how many rockers got their material from old blues musicians (you'll probably recognize these songs) The first track was re-done by Nirvana and the second song was re-worked by The Animals (and many others)

Attention Wilco Fans

Here's some exciting news for Wilco fans :

greetings friends,
as part of our ongoing effort to rock the homes, offices, dorms, and internet cafes of America and the world -- we're starting another on- demand stream of Sky Blue Sky on Sunday night at 12:01 a.m. Central time and continuing it non-stop for 24 straight hours. Make a note of it.
also, we've just decided to release a "deluxe version" of SBS which will include a DVD feature film by our good friends and cohorts Brendan Canty and Christoph Green (Sunken Treasure, Burn to Shine). Over the last year or so they've been filming rehearsals, interviews about the record, behind the scenes stuff, etc. and have put together a 48 minute film we're calling "Shake it Off' that we're confident you're gonna dig. Look for more information about it here soon. Preorder it
here.
More dates for June (mostly eastern half of North America) will be on the site next week. So be sure to check back.
peace & have a nice weekend.
