I suppose songs like these were the beginning of the end for The Commodores. Lionel wanted to write the slow ballads while the rest of the group wanted to bring the funk! As for me, I like 'em all.

I pretty much despised country music throughout high school and into college. I occasionally heard stuff that was on the radio and I just didn't get it. That is till i saw the VH1 Storytellers special with Willie Nelson and Johnny Cash back in 1998. I sat through the whole show and was blown away. I guess this was my "gateway drug" into the world of country music. Honestly I still don't particularly care for any current "country" stars, but after watching this TV special I discovered some great music that I once ignored: The Carter Family, Hank Williams, Waylon Jennings, David Allan Coe, etc.....)

Any band with two keyboard players is alright in my book. This song was most recently featured in Napoleon Dynamite.

If you've watched any sporting event in the last few months you've probably heard Q-Tip rapping in the Bud Select commercials. You know the one.."Don't Hold Back!" Anyways, I guess the marketing worked because it made me pull out my Old Tribe Cd's. Here's two tracks from one of the greatest rap groups from the 90's.

Happy New Year! Let's kick off 2007 with two classic reggae cuts by Jimmy Cliff from The Harder They Come Soundtrack. I figured these tracks fit a "New Year's theme" because they are about starting fresh and overcoming current obstacles to attain a brighter future---at least that's what i get out of 'em. Enjoy!!!
