Soundtrack Week - Pulp Fiction

Royale with cheese, Bring out the Gimp, Zed's Dead, Get the shot!...this movie has so many quotable lines. This is definitely my favorite movie from the 90's.Just in case you haven't seen this (if not rent it this weekend) here's a brief description....

Jules Winnfield and Vincent Vega are two hitmen who are out to retrieve a suitcase stolen from their employer, mob boss Marsellus Wallace. Wallace has also asked Vincent to take his wife Mia out a few days later when Wallace himself will be out of town. Butch Coolidge is an aging boxer who is paid by Wallace to lose his next fight. The lives of these seemingly unrelated people are woven together comprising of a series of funny, bizarre and uncalled-for incidents.

Soundtrack Week - Once

I didn't quite know what to expect when we threw this one in the DVD player but after a few minutes I was fully invested in the flick. I'm not the best at summarizing movies so in case you missed this one, here's what the Internet has to say:

An (unnamed) Guy is a Dublin guitarist/singer-songwriter who makes a living by fixing vacuum cleaners in his Dad's Hoover repair shop by day, and singing and playing for money on the Dublin streets by night. An (unnamed) Girl is a Czech who plays piano when she gets a chance, and does odd jobs by day and takes care of her mom and her daughter by night. Guy meets Girl, and they get to know each other as the Girl helps the Guy to put together a demo disc that he can take to London in hope of landing a music contract. During the same several day period, the Guy and the Girl work through their past loves, and reveal their budding love for one another, through their songs

I think after checking out this song you'll put this one on your queue......Enjoy.

Soundtrack Week - Over The Top

For my money this is the best arm wrestling movie ever made. If you've never seen the movie here's what Imbd had to say....Lincoln Hawk (Stallone) is a struggling trucker who's trying to rebuild his life. After the death of his wife, he tries to make amends with his son who he left behind years earlier. Upon their first meeting, his son doesn't think too highly of him until he enters the nation-wide arm wrestling competition in Las Vegas.
Wow I may go dust off my VHS copy and watch this bad boy tonight!

The soundtrack featured heavy hitters like Sammy Hagar, Eddie Money, Frank Stallone, and this man...the king of the 80's soundtrack, Kenny Loggins. Turn it up!

Sunday Morning Coming Down - Death Cab For Cutie

Good Afternoon. I just started listening to these guys at the end of last year. I was home one Saturday night watching PBS (Pretty Rock N Roll huh?) Anyways I started watching Soundstage just to see who was on and instead of changing the channel I stayed put for the whole hour. Well most of you probably were devotees for awhile but if not I recommend giving them a listen. Hope to be back sooner than later.

Wild Card Wednesday - Apple Gabriel

I don't know about you but once the days get longer and the temperature starts climbing I like to pull out the ole reggae Cd's. This track was from a compilation that came out a few years ago. Sometimes the tribute albums can be a bit lame but I feel that this one has more winners than losers. Here's a new take on an old classic.

Soul Music Sunday - Marvin Gaye

So after posting so much in February I decided to take off the month of March. I really try to post a couple times a month but stuff happens. I went to a pretty cool show since we last saw each other. I had the pleasure of seeing "An Evening With Wilco" at the National Theater in Richmond, VA. If you didn't hear about the tour they did a handful of dates with no opening band. They ended up being on stage over three hours and the show included about a 10 song acoustic set. Oh yeah on top of that they were playing small theaters so i got to witness this with only 1500 other people. Alright let's end this weekend on a good note. I hope you enjoy this weeks edition of Soul Music Sunday.

Sunday Morning Coming Down - The Jayhawks

It's been awhile since we've seen these guys in the dojo. I regret that I never had a chance to see them live. Apparently they get back together from time to time but for now nothing is permanent. I never thought I would say this but I have to go watch Extreme Home Makeover. I've never been able to stomach a whole episode but KISS is on tonight so it should be entertaining. Till next time.....

Love Week - REO Speedwagon

So this post will wrap up Love Week. I hope you enjoyed the posts this past week. This is the most I've posted in quite some time so i had fun as well. I've learned that once i post the songs to sendspace they are only good for two weeks...so if you see something you like make sure to scoop it up.
Let's end the week with one of my favorites. I hope everyone has a Happy Valentine's Day.
Love,
Gomez

Love Week - Talking Heads

I know some of you may be sick of this winter weather but us Charlestonians got our first taste of snow accumulation in 10 years last night. We had a little bit of time to enjoy the snow this morning but it's melting rapidly as we speak.
Alright let's continue this week's theme with some Talking Heads.
This one's not too happy and not too sad. I'll hit you with some mushy stuff tomorrow.

Love Week - Neil Young

The first day we celebrated love. The second day we lost love. Well today we're going to brush ourselves off and start all over again. Mr. Young is a bit better with the words than me so I'll let him do the rest of the talking. Enjoy.

Love Week - Jeff Tweedy

So I hope everyone enjoyed the uplifting tunes from yesterday. I know that some of you won't be celebrating Valentine's Day this year, so if that's the case this one's for you. The album version of this tune can be found on Golden Smog's Weird Tales Album. I decided to hook you guys up with the live solo acoustic version. Enjoy!

Love Week - Lionel Richie

I'm a little far behind on Love week so I decided to do an unprecedented two posts in one day!

So you can't have a love week without featuring The King of the 80's Love song! Here's a little Lionel.

Penny Lover

Love Week - Air Supply

So as you all know Valentine's Day is just around the corner. Some are excited, some are depressed, and some don't really care. Well I guess I've experienced each one of those feelings over the years. This week in the dojo the keyword is "love". I'll be going though my collection and picking out songs that have "Love" in the title. Some will be happy and some well, not so much. So no matter how you feel about the upcoming holiday i hope you can relate to some of the tunes.

"The beating of my heart is a drum and it's lost
And it's looking for a rhythm like you
You can take the darkness from the pit of the night
And turn into a beacon burning endlessly bright
"

Oh yeah this is a good one. Enjoy!
