Wild Card Wednesday - Red Hot Chili Peppers

Blood Sugar Sex Majic still remains my favorite CD by this crew (in fact it's one of my favorite cd's period) Anyways I purchased By the Way back in '02 after hearing the single. Since then it's been in heavy rotation in the ole cd player. Not as much funk on this one but still very entertaining. I'm skipping town for the weekend so i'll see you next week.

Wonder Years - Wu-Tang Clan

I was a pretty big rap fan in the 90's. When I was in middle school I listened to groups like Public Enemy, MC Hammer, Young MC, Kool Moe Dee, etc., etc. Anyways I first remember hearing this album when I was 16 (yikes 13 years ago) and I was immediately a fan. This album had such a raw in your face sound that i don't thing "the clan" ever topped. Wu-Tang came through Charleston a week or so ago but the $40 ticket prices turned me off. I got to catch them at Lollapolooza years back (although I believe ODB was in jail so he missed the show) I don't listen to rap much at all anymore but I would put this album in my top 5 Rap Albums of all time list. Hope you enjoyed the trip back to the 90's as much as i did. till next time......

Wonder Years - Pennywise

Man that clown from It still freaks me out. That's right i used to rock a Pennywise sticker (the California rock band, not the clown) on my first car...a maroon 88' Chevy Beretta. Nice! And yes this is a cover of the Ben E. King soul classic. Have a good weekend everybody.

Wonder Years - Pearl Jam

It was hard to avoid the "grunge music" explosion if you were a teen in the 90's. I was never a die hard Peal Jam fan but i did own the 3 essential discs they released during that decade...Ten, Vs. , & Vitalogy. Vitalogy was actually the last Pearl Jam album I ever bought (although a few weeks ago I purchased the "Into the Wild Soundtrack") Just listening to this now reminds of getting my license and the taste of warm Milwaukee's Best (Red). Wonder Years - Journey

My intention was to keep this weeks posts "strictly 90's", however....I was at work this morning and i tore off yesterdays page of my "Music History" calendar and it turns out today is Steve Perry's birthday. I thought it would be disrespectful not to post some Journey. In a way I'm still sticking with this weeks theme because Journey's Greatest Hits was a frequent visitor in my CD player throughout high school. You know you love it!

Wonder Years - The Mighty Mighty Bosstones

If you're familiar with this site (or if you just look at the name) it's fairly obvious that I love the 80's. As much as i love the decade of decadence, i did most of my "growing up" in the 90's. During this decade I graduated from high school and stated my college years. This was also the time that I started going to rock concerts, buying music, and basically becoming a music junkie. Anyways this week I'm going to dedicate the posts to some of the tunes that were playing in my car stereo, spinning at parties, etc during my "Wonder Years". Let's kick this off with one of my favorite bands from my high school years. For the most part i felt that the "ska music explosion" in the 90's gave attention to some really shit music but these guys always seemed like the real deal. I got the chance to see these guys live twice (first time at Lollapalooza, second time many years later in a small club in Richmond) The Richmond show produced one of the oddest things I've seen at a show. Some guy in the audience kept yelling out stuff to Dicky Barrett (the singer) and finally Dicky said ,"why don't you come up here and do something about it." well the guy took him up on the offer and jumped on stage and punched the singer in the face. hey he asked him to do it. alright enough talking....I've got to watch Rock of Love.

It's Alive! - Beck

Union Chapel - London 2003

I'm a big fan of acoustic albums and when I heard Beck put one out I was a bit skeptical. After reading a few reviews I decided to give it a listen and I'd have to say that Sea Change became my favorite Album of 2002. Here's a few tracks from that CD performed live..

Tuesdays with Dylan

Thanks to Santa my Dylan collection grew a bit larger over the Christmas break. I received the Bootleg Series Vol 1-3 and have been thoroughly enjoying it. This is my favorite track off the albums. As a bonus I've included ole Johnny Cash's version of the same track (although his title says You've instead of You) from the great Orange Blossom Special Album. Enjoy! By the way..how cool is that picture!?

Bridging the Gap - Nick Drake

This bridge was unfortunately a short journey which only lasted 1969-1972. Drake released three albums before passing away from an overdose of antidepressants at the age of 26. Biographers say that Drake was disappointed and depressed about his lack of commercial success and low record sales. This feeling of depression is very apparent to anyone who listens to Drake's last (and in my opinion his best) album Pink Moon. Ironically Drake is finally achieving commercial success and audience acceptance 30 years after his death.

Bridging the Gap - Bruce Springsteen

Hey gang. It's another new year so i thought i should think of a new category to post. Last year i added "Soul Music Sunday." This year I'd like to introduce "Bridging the Gap." For these posts I'll take a track from a bands/artists first album and then one from their last or most recent CD. Let's kick things off with the Boss. I'll have the pleasure of seeing Bruce with the E Street band in April for this first time (I've only seen Bruce solo) so I'm pretty excited. Hope you enjoy the new category!
